I am working on Robert Lang's Circada from Origami Insects. I'm roughly halfway through and I expect that I will put the finishing touches to it tomorrow.
One nagging concern is the thickness of the paper I am using. It's a piece of Elephanthide. With complex models like this there is always a danger of having too many layers stacked on top of each other and then being unable to make accurate folds as a consequence of using a high GSM paper.
If I manage to finish this model I may attempt Lang's other Circada design - the one that is made from a rectangular sheet of paper and has a slightly longer body.
Hmm. I seem to stuck on that crimp fold, that begins on step 54, and the manoeuvers that come after it. It's one of those occassions where it's a bonus to be working with relatively thick paper, as you can keep going back and making fresh attempts, without much risk of tearing the model.
I folded Jason Ku's Balrog (from Tanteidan 10th convention).
It's very hard and took me ages to fold, more than 4 hours ...
I used 60g 60cm white Kraft square, but i believe i should have used Tissue foil...
I plan on doing an Icarus, what kind of paper is the best to fold it ?
thnks
I've been folding some curvy shapes recently, where the creases that aren't made are just as important as the ones that are. Um. They look a bit like a cross between something by the late Philip Shen and one of Paul Jackson's minimalist folds.
Recently I've folded John Montrols Pelican from Origami for the Coinneseur....(sorry, really don't know how to spell that). But I that is one that I've memorized so it dosen't count. My most recently learned fold is Fernando Gilgado's multi-fingered Dragon. and I am actually quite impressed with it.
John: just want to echo Chris's comments about your curvy shapes. Very nice. I immediately had to try folding them myself - figured out 1 and 3 OK, still working on 2 and 4. I also came up with a nice variation of number 3 by creasing the diagonals just in the centre, rather than all the way to the corners - but you've probably already tried this.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I detect the influence of Nick Robinson's "Flower Form" on these works. But I suppose that goes back to Shen as well.
I folded 3 Horse by Komatsu, from 20 cm (7.9 inch), 16.5 cm (6.5 inch), and 10 cm (4 inch) squares.
I wonder what is the littlest horse its possible to fold. Has anybody folded one from less than 10 cm square ? I can't find anything 'bout it on the internet.

I also search for modular easy to make with 4 cm square and with a good looking.
I have a photo of Hideo Komatsu's horse (you meant Komatsu, right ?)
First horse is with a 20 cm square, then 16.5 cm and finally 10. I'm trying to fold one from 9 cm, but I'm not very satisfied of the final result for now.
