Re: GSM - Paper / Card Weight, your thoughts?
My preferred papers are 110gsm elephant hide (the best of all manufactured papers) and our own handmade flax/abaca blend, which is probably 90gsm, if I had to guess. I like folding tessellations, so my paper preferences are of course for the right materials for that purpose... as others have said, d...

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
Thanks for all the wonderful tessellation videos, Sara! I feel very privileged to have you making such fantastic instructional material; I couldn't do the same. I constantly find myself pointing people towards your videos as answers to questions- much easier than trying to explain to them in writing...

Re: Origami Tessellations
Sara Adams has made several origami tessellations videos, I would suggest checking those out.

Re: Origami Tessellations
Origami tessellations are really hard to diagram - the primary method of sharing is either via photos or through crease patterns. The thing is, once you've put in some time folding tessellations, directions aren't that necessary anymore. it becomes pretty easy to figure out how people made their des...

Re: Joel Cooper Mask
After seeing Erics comment, I dont think im ready to tackle these masks... yet. I wasn't implying you shouldn't try it - the way we learn is by trying! by all means give it a go. My point was more that Joel has a lot of time tied up in his mask folding, and it would be impossible to duplicate that ...

Re: Selling Origami
Yeah, that's really not the relevant conversation here... there's a big difference between what is "ethically" correct and what is "legally" proper - often a very *large* difference. The same applies here, and is a entirely different conversation that we don't need to delve into. As much as I'd like...

Re: Help making a book
oh, and also:
... especially since they also read these origami forumsYou've stated that you'd prefer to not consult with other authors, but to me, it is a no-brainer to first contact Eric Gjerde and Nicolas Terry for their thoughts and critiques for a tessellation book.

Re: Help making a book
If you're gonna write a book on tessellations, make sure you stand up to the competition... Andrew - does that mean we have to have an origami tessellation throwdown? :) I didn't know Ilan was shopping a script around, that's great news. we need more tess books! Now that AK Peters is no more, I'm n...

Re: Joel Cooper Mask
The real challenge with Joel's work is that he is a sculptor - the technical aspects of folding the masks, while daunting, are not insurmountable. However the sculpting and shaping he does is really a thing that is Joel's own doing, and very unique to him. In a way, much like Joisel. I have watched ...

Re: Selling Origami
If you're looking to sell origami, do make sure to properly present your work - having it well framed in a method that displays your work without distracting is very important. This is an area where the origami community often falls short, as we're so focused on the piece as origami and not on the w...

Re: Creaseless Pre-Creasing?
Folding with a grid is just a way of having reference lines and points on the paper - you could easily transfer the needed points and lines with a pencil (or whatever), and fold only the things you need. We're limited to such things as humans, after all, but if you use a computer you can do it all w...

Nicolas is a good guy. I wouldn't worry. The issue with your name - sending anything internationally requires customs forms, and they always ask for quite a bit of information. and depending on your home country, your postal customs clearance can take quite a while. so bear this in mind when orderin...

Re: Chris palmers new book!!
Oddly enough, I just got in touch with his publisher today about getting a copy for review - it should be here in the next few days. I'm looking forward to it. I'm friends with Chris and Jeff, so I was privy to some of the work as the book was in progress; Chris showed me the final product a few mon...

This is a really big topic! there's a lot of different components to this conversation, all of which go off in separate directions... (self publishing, low-cost book publishers looking for set-fee work, publications with royalties, etc.) As far as traditional publishers go, what the publishing house...

paper size
Recently I've been making paper on a large mould and deckle at a friend's paper studio.
The mould itself is about 8 feet x 2.5 feet, or 250cm x 75cm.
Folding sheets of handmade paper that hard is difficult!!! I can't imagine dealing with much larger sizes...
