Re: Origami Insects II - Robert J. Lang damaged for sale

I own a number of books published by Origami House. And of all those books, it's only the Origami Insects II that's falling apart. Bad batch perhaps. :( In my case, the latter 1/3 set of pages fell off. I squared them off and held them between two plywood sheets. Then I roughened up the edge that co...

Re: Origami art book with embossed bending lines on Kickstar

The pre-creased paper sounds like a good idea!
I've a suggestion --- one of the more challenging folds even for experienced folders is the curved fold. Why not leverage the pre-creasing by incorporating curved folds onto the model? The curved folds will also add body/3d effect.

Re: Calling all origami enthusiasts in the Philippines

Hi, Go to national bookstore and ask for Mahjong Paper. it's a HUGE pad that is placed on top of mahjong table. Roughly 4ft x 4ft. It's technically kraft paper. One sheet is huge enough to allow you to fold most complex models without problems. If your nearest NBS is out of stock, you can also get t...

this might be worth a try:

But I'm not sure if it will be able to handle the dependencies for the Java3D libraries.

Re: Oripa, Treemaker, Ref Finder for Android? APK?

Robert Lang has generously made the source codes for Ref Finder and TreeMaker available under GPL. However, it might not be that simple/straightforward to convert to the Android (or Mobile) platform. The first hurdle would be to update the source codes to compile under the Android SDK platform. The ...

If you succeed with A4, you'll end up with an approximately 3" wingspan model.

Re: Brian Chan Hermit Crab (V2)

The shell part came from Kawasaki's Spiral Snail Shell. You can find the diagrams for that in Origami for the Connoisseur. Folding can get a bit tricky since the crab part is grafted onto two edges of the square that comprises the Spiral Snail Shell. But once you've collapse the snail shell to its b...

Re: Why does my internet goes off when I go to YouTube?!

When you say, "your internet goes off," do you mean to say that all internet access on your computer goes down? In other words, once this happens or while this is happening, you can't do any other things that require internet access such as browsing, email, etc? Also, does this only occur on your co...

Re: origami insects 2 hardest modeL!

I vote for the tarantula.
Though the steps and the folds aren't that hard, I've yet to fold one that remotely matches the picture on the book (and on Lang's site).

Oh my! I'll look forward to this.

I do hope they fix the quality of their bookbinding.

I have Origami Insects II and Works of Kamiya.
My Origami Insects II book is falling apart.
My Works of Kamiya is starting to follow suit.

Re: Box Pleating -- passe already?

So long as you can produce a model that effectively captures the spirit of the subject, then it doesn't matter what design technique you used, be it circle packing, square packing or hex pleating, etc. And if I may add, even if square packing is passé you are not wasting your time by studying it. I ...

Re: My Latest Original Creation

I agree with Flaregloom. The model looks great as it is.

On the topic of simple vs ultra-detailed >> I think both are great. But whatever you choose to do, be sure it's consistent throughout the model. :) You wouldn't want to have a simple bodied insect that has ultra-realistic appendages.
