Monthly Folding Challenge - January 2009

Post by juston »

The theme for this month's challenge is so simple that I'm surprised it hasn't been suggested in the nearly two years this contest has been going on... color change (aka inside out origami). Create a model that uses both sides of the paper in a purposeful way to add detail. Some examples of what I mean are Brian Chan's Suigintou & Rei v. 3... and Michael LaFosse's cardinal & husky pup on the less complex end of the spectrum.

Rules (you just knew there were gonna be some):

-Use only one sheet of paper (it can be a square, a rectangle, or even a triangle if you're feeling silly) and no cuts. Multiple sheets and cutting make color changing so easy as to be meaningless. Remember, it's the Monthly Folding Challenge, not the Monthly Folding Easy.
-I hope I don't need to say this but just in case... you can use any kind of paper you like, just make sure the two sides are different colors so we won't have to enjoy your color change in theory alone. #-o
-There are no prohibitions on wet folding, using MC, or foil paper.
-Let's try to avoid elephants with color change tusks for this challenge, we get it already.
-Enter as many models as you like.
-All levels of complexity are welcome.
-The model doesn't have to be new to you, just new to us here on the forum.
-BluePaper will judge this month's challenge and choose the theme for next month's.
-BluePaper and I are allowed to enter a model(s) if we so choose but are not eligible to win.
-Have a happy new year!*

May the best color change win,
Juston.

*It's a rule now so you have to do it.

This sounds like something Cupcake would really enjoy...
I've fallen down, and I can't get up.

Sorry for poor quality of photos; small bandwidth and cell phone instead of proper camera :/

Can I use a 16-gon?
My Flickr

Hi! It's been a long while since I've been active on here. I deleted my Dropbox years ago, so some things, like my Dragonfly Varileg guide, are lost to time. I may still have other things, though! Email me if you have any questions.

hey. that's MY question :-P

I'm going to participate this time around; I haven't done these challenges for awhile, but I need to practice my color-chnges so this is an excellent opportunity!

 That's a lotta 'gons'.

PS: Looks like we're already off to a great start, let's hope this keeps up. What am I worried about... I'm sure everyone's new year's resolution was to fold more anyway.

It sure is.

To simplify, can I use a regular polygon with 16 sides?

If you can make a model with a color change out of it, I don't see why not. That's practically a circle though... interesting.
