Monthly Folding Challenge - November 2008

Post by Jonnycakes »

The theme for this month's challenge is Video Games.
The goal of this challenge is to fold something that appears in a video game-not physical things such as video game consoles, CDs, computers, etc. but actual people, creatures, or things portrayed in the game. These things must be identifiable as being from a specific game. For example, if you fold a dragon, it must be identifiable as a specific dragon-Bahamut from Final Fantasy, for instance, not just a generic dragon (try not to fold something from Spore, or something else that is also ridiculously customizable :P). Try thinking about video game characters, enemies, weapons, items and accessories, and vehicles.

To get you started, and to help give ideas to those who are not gamers, here is a short list of possible games to consider (the challenge is not limited to this list-you may choose from any video game from any system).

Mario
Zelda
Final Fantasy
Donkey Kong
Halo
Counterstrike
Soul Calibur
Pikmin

List the video game that your entry appears in along with a picture of your design.

For the actual folding, just about anything goes:
-Use any shape of paper (squares are preferred, but not required)
-Use any number of sheets of paper
-No cutting, tape, or glue (MC is allowed)

Sunburst won the October challenge and thus will judge this month's challenge and choose the topic for December's. Have fun!

Hmmm. Pikmin. I really want to make one of those. I just don't know if I'll have time this month. We'll see. Great challenge though! I'd love to see someone make Link fully outfitted with the master sword and everything.

If you can't fold it, try a bazooka.

Nice idea, a hard one for me as I don't play many games.
Just for clarification... is this challenge for any game that can be played on any electronic device (Computer, Game Console, even cellphone)?

It is for any game for any system. The list I gave is just to give a few ideas-it is not a limitation to only those games. I will try to clarify that in my original post-thank you.

If Pokemon count, this should be easy for me! Then again, I guess I have to design a really iconic or special Pokemon then...

Yes you would have to make a special Pokemon because Mew and the yellow guy has been already made. Nice to see you what you will come up with! :D
Keep on trying, it will work.

I really like this theme as well. I was really hoping this would pop up some day soon. Now I just hope I'll have some time to actually design something. I wanted to enter the previous couple of contests as well, but I never had the time to experiment. Curse you, university!

Soul Caliber is spelled as Soul Calibur, by the way.

*Gasp*, new rules.

I might submit something this month's challenge. I already have 3 different designs from video games, I've only shown pictures of two of them because I don't have the right color paper for the third. I wanted to keep my third one a secret until OUSA 2009 (hey, I want to at least have something that no one's seen yet) but I might reconsider and post it here :)

but then again, it is something very few people would actually recognize...

I'll worry about that stuff when I actually get some good paper and fold the model.

I never thought that this topic would come out. I will definitely try to design something for it, even if I am the judge this month. Oh, and Bluepaper, which two models have you already shown?
