I used my best detective work and located a photo of the crease pattern Brian drew on the blackboard of a class he was teaching at OrigamiUSA 2008 (the photo is on their site as part of convention highlights). I played Brian's Google video very slowly and scoured the internet for examples of the model from other folders. And success! Not elegant, but success. I posted some in-process pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/32648308@N ... 968220709/

Edit: I revised the crease pattern a tad and added some notes. Once you understand that it's laid out on a 20x20 grid and you see the crease pattern - including the just barely visible erased marks - that Brian drew on the blackboard http://www.origami-usa.org/node/541 you can replicate the cp. If you can get the thing to collapse, you're almost done.

That's a terrific first pass fold of the base Wall-e. The color coding and in process pictures are helpful to the rest of us.

It may not be elegant, but Brian implied that it took about 1.5 hours of shaping to get to the finished model.

Thanks for publishing your hard work,

I think that most people agree with you, that this is one of Brian's easiest... which just goes to show how far it is for some of us to struggle up to the lowest rung of his elegant designs.

So, I repeat my plea, have pity on the rest of us poor mortals, who still need step by step diagrams, recipes, and musical scores... :-)

Although we appreciate the stretch, sometimes we tear....

Great model: Any helpful hints for shaping the eyes... and for the cockroach ?

Thanx,
Hank Simon

As you can see there are two corners poking out of the head, you take those corners and sink then in and then open them out the get an eye!

( not sure if this is right, maybe anermak can correct me)
