Hi,

I just came across this... any hints how you start best? How hard might this
be to fold for a beginner?

Extremely. It is definitely not a beginner's fold. And it requires you to solve a crease pattern, which requires more advanced knowledge than ANY set of diagrams.

But if you really wish to fold it, start with a huge sheet of paper. 20 inches on a side should be okay. As far as crease patterns go, it's not overly difficult to solve this one.

Like Jared said, it is a very difficult model, I know because Ihave folded it. The difficulty isn't in understanding how the crease patter is done, but instead in the folding itself. Wall-E is NOT a model that a beginner should attempt to make, it would likely be very time consuming and full of a lot of disapointment...

yes, i agree, the crease pattern may look easy but the collasping part is the hardest part of all to do, good luck if you are trying this model, you will need good fingers

I too think this is NOT a beginner model.
I found this youtube vid though that shows how to make it (sadly this person goes too fast!)
This probably won't help, but it's worth a try!

What's wrong with me today!!!
This teaches me a lesson, PAY ATTENTION TO SPELLING!

I've had this cp printed for a while but haven't attempted it yet. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner but it doesn't look overly complicated, mostly tedious with the pleating on the wheels especially. Shaping might be kind of hard too, but not having folded it yet I can't really say. A good cp for a beginner if you really want to try one is Joisel's Dwarf. It's relatively simple, mostly box pleating. The hardest part would be shaping but I think there's plenty of help and photos in the the topic on it that you should be able to at least collapse the model. Here's the link: viewtopic.php?t=2000

I've seen a short preview before the last movie I went to see on cinema.

It has been amazing to see it in origami

It was quite a long time since my last visit to B. Chan's website, and now I've seen also IronMan

I have to quote that this model is not suitable for a beginner

But it is also true that an origami-lover will not be a beginner for all his life

This Wall E robot CP most certainly not for beginner folder , i know coz i have tried it before and failed.

Brain actually taught this last month at JOAS Convention folding sessions,
the finishing robot wheels look different from the display one.

This robot took me about 3 1/2 hours to finish.........,the most difficult part for me is shaping the eyes,also this model best fold with foil paper !

Help ?

I notice that Brian uses pliers to pleat the wheels in the Video. And people have implied that it takes > 3 hours to fold.

So...

Would those of you who have persisted and succeeded, please put together some helpful hints, photos, videos, etc. to help the rest of us with Wall-E ?

My tips........

Use foil paper ! the bigger the better !
I used kami colour paper size 35cm x 35cm

As I said earlier,the difficult part for me was shaping the eyes , i think my paper is too small for that..........

If you are a advance folders this CP would be a piece of cake for you .
