Phoenix 3.0 --> Help help with the wings and chest.

Like caysao1 posted earlier, I also need help in doing those :x wings.

I've made dozens of attempts, but I still end up getting wings that look more like the side fins of a fish.

Image

Looking at the picture from Kamiya's website (as well as the one posted by caysao1 earlier), there seems to be a huge flat area backing the wings. Where did that come from? I tried flattening (un-pleating?) out the pleats starting from the bird's armpits...but they don't seem to look like the one in the picture.

....

Then there's this thing with the bird's chest.

Based on the CP above, what happens to the marked portion?

Image
If I try to collapse it as it appears in the image above, I get a lot of extra paper that belongs to the portion highlighted in the previous image. Is there really extra paper or did I collapse the chest incorrectly?

Thanks :-)

First try

Post by mithrandir »

Hi, this is my first try folding kamiya's phoenix.
The paper I used was too thick and torn at some places. I doesn't get even close to kamiya's... I had the same problems as eric_son.

I have 2 questions:
- Did I fold the wings right???
-What do I do with the extra flap that appears under the model???

Hi,

Dunno about the wings...but your wings still look a lot better than what mine turned out as:

Image

My wings look like the spokes of a gear.

How did you collapse the chest + neck portion of the bird?

Hi Artur,

Thanks for posting those images.
Those are the biggest and clearest Phoenix 3.0 i've seen, and it really clarifies a lot of things.
But alas, I'm still at work and I can't wait to go home and take another attempt.

Anyway, if you don't mind, I still have some questions about the flat-bottom part of the wing:

Image

Did that part come from this portion of the CP?

Thank you very much and best regards,

Eric

Hi, this is my second attempt: Image
I folded the wings like arthur (I think), but I curved the upper portion of
the wings instead of crimping behind (I think Kamiya do this way)

Can someone recommend a size paper to use for attempting the phoenix? My guess tells me somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 cm. Is that about right, or can I go smaller (say, 35-ish?)

Yeah!

Finally, after my umpteenth attempt....

Image

Though I think the wings and chest need a little more figuring out, I'm finally happy with what I got.

Oh yeah, the head too.

It's time to bring out the good paper!

Now I can sleep easy, hehehe..

Thanks for all the help. Very much appreciated!
