Here are some of my trials of the rose folded with copy and looseleaf paper, I tried to curve the petals more so it looks realistic:

Loose leaf paper? Thats hard core. I had no idea that loose leaf paper would work for a model like this. Does the model stay?

Kevin, can you take a better shot of the top? My problem has always been with the initial curl.

For those who are having problems with curl, starting with the lowest layer has worked for me. It helps set up the middle.

Actually, looseleaf paper does stay, in fact, of all my trials folding this rose, looseleaf paper and any other strong, thin paper is perfect for this model! And my camera is more suited for landscape photos, not close up shots, so I can't take a decent picture of the twist of the rose. But this might help you:

Ive looked over that link a hundred times. it's a good fold but its still not what i am looking for.

Hi, there, I'm new here.
I've been through this whole thread and it helped me a lot, since this was my first attempt at a cp.
I have to say this rose is just beautiful, but oh so tricky. I managed to get the base, but i still have a few doubts, if anyone could help me out it would be great.

first, should the base have two seperate flaps or is there anywhere to lock them together?

the other problem I have is with the beginning of the curl. I can't seem to figure out where to start.

Not bad, looks like you just need to get your final shaping down. I really like the gold paper on the one. Ok what do you mean by two separate flaps? Are you talking after the model is comepletely collapsed? If so, the one end kind of tucks into the other end. To see pics go to Perrosaurios's guide on page 8 of this topic and towards the bottom is the link. Then inside of the guide look at the first picture on page 6, this shows the two ends tucked together from the side.

Or you can go to http://oriart.ru/forum/11-186-2 and scroll down a little bit. She shows a little more in depth the 'tucking' as you collapse the final 11th row. Note you'll have to scroll down a little bit.

Both of those tutorials should help with the curling bit as well

Thanks for the tips, I've read the parts you recommended and I'll give it another try when I find the time. Will post the results right after that.

By the way, the gold one is made from kraft paper, which i find to work just great for me with almost every complex model I've tried

I recently started to attempt this from the diagrams in the 12th Convention book and I have to say there is a little issue with the CP. The zig zag folds do not come out that way. The CP shows that diagonals folds meet on a 1/11th fold, this is not right. Only the bottom one does.

The pic should explain it better. (The red lines are the vertical folds that I am talking about.)

I highly recommend finding the book with the directions, it helps a lot.

I'm triying to fold the rose from the book but for some reason when I pleat in step 5 the last flap is longer than it should be, anyone else with the same problem?

gosh, steps 35 and on... im not sure what im doing wrong, but i can never get the swirls right.

anybody have any suggestions? my first attempt went well but it was with tissue foil. i just used MC'd tissue.

I saw the russian page, but still have an essencial problem it didn't help with.

What is step 37? I don't get what happened there. It's like the triangles are above the pentagons but I don't see how.
My third attempt on the rose looks considerably better than the second (and the first didn't go past the pentagon)

I have a minor problem as well. I can't make the pentagon... a pentagon. It looks fine up to the 3rd fold, but the 4th and 5th somehow screw up and don't close. Thus, I get a longer shape like in some pictures. There doesn't seem to be much room inside the pentagon to put the bottom in...

I'm not quite sure how to make the bottom look like petals. In the end, it looks like a small rose on a creased pentagon.
