Monthly Folding Challenge - February 2008

The first, I'm so sorry because I post this topic too early (I have to go far away the next 3 days). So I hope this topic will be more interesting to everyone!

In Vietnam, on February 7th, this is the new year day. So if you don't mind, the topic of the next challenge is "A NEW YEAR CARD". I think it's easy to do and many people will join the contest! ^__^

And the rule:
- Use paper and only paper! ^__^
- You can cut, can paint, can use many papers you like!
- In the Card, you have to write your own word about new year.

That's all!

The judge: I will post as soon as possible!

I can't join this contest but I will post my card to celebrate. ^__^

I hope you will take part in! :P

I will be presenting a series of pop-up cards here:

My pop-ups consit of two parts:
1 square or rectrangle used to make the pop-up holder card.
1 rectangle (usually a square) to make th e pop-up

This first card consits of a box that comes together as the card opens.
The picture shows the card in three states (a)closed (b) partially open and (c) completely open

I have a video which I will shoiw here when I get it downloaded

You can add your own NEW YEARS Message to the card as desired (or place a NEW YEARS object?) in the box!

Amazing Roll-Up Pop-Up

Image

One square is used for the pop-up, one more for the pop-up holder card
No cuts or glue

With a broad stretch of imagination this card has several uses for this month of February.

1. You might use this card to announce a celebration of the Lunar New Year

“Roll in the new year, roll out the old”

You can even remove the pop-up and use it as a lantern shade

2. You might use this card to announce a Mardi gras event. Simply add the Cajun phrase

"Laissez les bons temps rouler!"

3. The roll-up somewhat resembles the elliptical spheroid that is used in what Americans call Football. Great for the next Super Bowl party invitation.

Roll on Chicago Bears!

Firstfold, that's fantastic.
I was sure you would win last month with your cheese and the filled cup and all the other things you showed us (if I would have been the judge, you would have won).

Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing it with us!

Great job!

I'm having some trouble thinking of what to fold. I'll think of something, but up to now, I've only ever seen one pop up card from one piece of paper.

EDIT: Heres my try at a card.

You open it up to reveal...

I colored in the head, but you can see it if you don't color it in. It didn't really turn out very well with color...

Pop-Ups folded from uncut squares with four bending or curling petals.

Technically, the last pop-up has six petals (when removed from the pop-up holder card, this pop-up forms a symetrical six-pointed star with outward bending points. Two petals are used to attach the pop-up to the card (folded in - not glued)
