The challenge for the new year is a type of food. Ex. a bunch of grapes or a sandwich. The models must follow these general guidelines:
-model can be from any amount of squares or other shapes.
-any shape or size paper can be used
-a scene can be designed
-no glue or glitter is allowed.
- Cutting is also not allowed.
- models must be original
-models cannot previously have been posted on the internet
- please add photos and descriptions of the models

The judge will be Adamschen, who will pick the top three designs.
Adamschen and I are banned from winning, but we can still enter.

Umm, could you please edit your first post and change the title to "Monthly Folding Challenge - January, 2008"? Its just that I had trouble finding this months challenge, seeing as I'm used to searching for that first part. Its just that I think that it might help...

Do vegetables count? Because I think they shouldn't.

I've beem putting in the first models for several months now, so I was waiting for someone else to step up.

Besides this origami would be best served after the meal?

Folded from one 10 by 20 brown with a white back 10 by 20 rectangle. It looked so yummy, that I had to put it on a golden plate (1 square foil).

i have created two models for this months competition.

1. pineapple
folded from a 50cm square of brown patterned wrapping paper.





2. strawberry.
i wanted to give the skin a bumpy pattern and pleat the leaves
folded from a 26cm square.

I've designed a broccoli, but I just haven't folded it yet. I'm a bit slow at folding this month...

I wasn't sure if you wanted cherry or vanilla. So, I took another square of red and white paper, turned it over, and folded the second pie.

Looks more like cheese to me, especially the white one reminds me of Camembert

It seems to be one square for each part

The combined pie and pie tin is one and only one uncut square!

Initial fords for the "Missing Piece Pie"

I take it as a high compliment that you think that each piece of the model was folded from separate sheets. Here is the model in progress so you can see how the pie (all five pieces) and the tin are made from a single sheet of paper:


The paper is folded onto six pocket segments. One segment is reversed downward and blintzed to appear the same color as the pie tin (This is the “Missing piece”) The bottom edge is color changed with a fold over and swivel fold to narrow the edge (This forms the start of pie tin surrounding the 5 pieces and the missing piece).

From the point of the photo, additional edges are color changed, curved and overlapped to form the pie tin.
The edges of the pie pieces are rounded to provide realism. This model might work for pie, pizza or as suggested here – cheese.

Woah! the entire pie and pan is one piece?! I was completely fooled- that's amazing!

This is a tough challenge...I have been mainly thinking of fruits and vegetables, and they are very hard to design well-they are very full, rounded objects and hard to reproduce with paper. I did come up with a design, though...I will post it tomorrow probably.

Anyway, why I really posted is because I have a question. By "no glue" do you mean no glue to hold parts together that would not be locked otherwise, or are you also restricting back-coating and wet-folding with sizes?

I think that you can do whatever you want to your paper beforehand, but once you start folding, you can't use anything else. I guess methyl cellulose should be fine because the rules state

any shape or size paper can be used
