"I hope it is someone to play with"
Ah, the "Firstfold" of the new year for the January challenge.
Combined birdie, egg and stand from just one rectangle.

Re: monthly folding challenge: January 2016
I am trying to design a gun with a twisted barrel, but I'm not very sure whether it's got to do with peace or hope.
Re: monthly folding challenge: January 2016
I can't believe it. Just three days after releasing this model in my flickr page I saw this challenge. HOPE. Just the title of my model. Here it goes. It has a sword but it is the sword of hope with which the DARKNESS will be defeated.
"No matter what, there is always hope"
Folded from a 50x50 cm square bicolor paper. Final height of the model is 26 cm. The laser sword green color has been digitally enhanced in the photo. The head is based on Fumiaki Kawahata's Yoda, a bird base on top of the square but in my case the corner of the square forms the head instead of the nose.
@PICARUELO
Happy folds!!!

This is a “Hopeful Origami Stalagmite” because with careful stacking of more polyhedra and balance, it might just reach the ceiling.
Let’s clear up the terminology. Here’s a helpful (and widely-used) phrase you can use to sort out which is which: “Stalactites hold tight to the ceiling and stalagmites might touch the ceiling.”

Don't know how this is supposed to stick to my brain. The way I got it told is: "stalag tits hang down" (like breasts do). Got the picture in your head? Never confuse it again.firstfold wrote:Let’s clear up the terminology. You made my day!
And you are right, the mental image is much more stronger for this phrase.

A second entry: The Sword in the Stone. It's what I've wanted to make from the beginning, but I only just cracked a couple design roadblocks last night.

Re: monthly folding challenge: January 2016
This month was a little tricky for me to judge because there were a lot of entries that each had different interpretations of the theme (which admittedly isn't a bad thing).
Because of this, I really couldn't decide placements, but I think I'll choose Yagowe as the winner with the sunrise and sword models. Those models represented hope best to me personally. Congrats, and Yagowe will judge for February.
