I alway fold draft of each model at the first time for understanding of it. After that, I can find out the step that I should do before, the step that I should do after in order to make the model in good looking at the second try, third try, etc ... . About the corners, you can round it if possible to make models smoothly

Well assuming that Cupcake assumption is correct and the CP is indeed copytighted, can you please tell if it's box pleated. Most of Joisel models are done so, so I wonder if this one is also box pleated.

I can answer that just by looking at it: yes.

I know its construction is similar to the mermaid, for which Joisel has a CP up (look in Eric Joisel's galerie on the French forum). At least the head and hands are the same. Difference is that the dwarf is from a square, and the feet come from the bottom corners, and obviously there are no scales.

I wonder how you are so sure that the upper part is the same as the Sirene model. I mean, where is the very long flap used for the hat, and where is the flap used for the beard. It is possible that both flaps have been rolled and tucked in, but you can not know that for sure. Unless you've examined the CP real good (which I didn't), and from it, you've drew your conclusion.

I hope that vohinhlangtu himself would give us a conclusive answer, if it is box pleated or not (and how much similairaty it has with the sirene model).

Look at the top of the CP, in the center: that large flap is the hat. Then there are four flaps for shaping the face: one for the bottom of the hat, sunken to distinguish it from the face, one for the eyes and nose, and two for the mouth/beard/chin. The jacket's also natural and easy to see if you fold it, but a little more difficult for me to describe just from the CP (see where the sides (ignoring the border grafts) are folded into the center? There).

In the mermaid, the long flap is squashed and spread out for the hair, the bottom of which is sunken in, to create the distinction between hair and face, one for the eyes and nose, one for the mouth, and one for the chin.

The dwarf hat is what you get if you do almost nothing to that long flap.

And how I know? I folded the top of the pattern a while ago, a day or so after Joisel released it. I hadn't realized how small and important those llittle face flaps were, so the florist foil I used didn't work too well, and I gave up before I even got to the scales.

And you can tell that there was at least some box-pleating involved just by looking at the feet.
