Origami terms in different languages

I was thinking about this using XML/XSLT, but since you've already "volunteered," here are some suggestions that may simplify the work:

1. There are a limited number of terms, so you could create a fixed display of all terms - that simplifies the Search box.
2. You might limit the answer to a Translate From A to B format with a drop down list of all languages. The resulting display might show the native language and then the target language for translation - again with all terms.
3. It may be difficult to program a "wiki" interface that allows collaborative input, but with a general database design, behind the scene modifications would be easier at this first stage.
4. No suggestion for Non-Latin language storage and display, but it looks like that may not be a problem.
5. For images, I suggest a link that opens another page. Also, you may consider linking to existing pages on the Web that show pictures... and maybe videos.

I hope that will simplify the work a bit,

I posted this earlier, but it seems to have got lost! Anyway. A few years ago Julia Palffy started a similar project with a few to a booklet or website (I believe). She had a number of languages and terms set out. I haven't heard of this for ages.

Thanks for everyone's help on this. I've written a small module for a dictionary now, and added the terms that were posted here so far, plus some extra.

You can select the source language and the target language. Then all terms in the source language are translated to the target language. The translation in the target language is left blank if none exists yet (i.e. you will always get all terms in the source language listed - thought this would be a good idea).

I want to extend the dictionary with time as follows:
* add pages for each term that show diagrams and give a textual explanation [in English] - the terms then directly link to those pages
* add a search function, with the option to search across all languages, or a specific language
* maybe: add a way of contributing translations
* maybe: add a way of reporting incorrect translations

Feel free to give feedback on the current page, and post more translations. Also, if you think a term is missing, do let me know.

This is a quick update. Yes, I've been spending insanely much time on this dictionary in the last couple of days...

* I've added some pages with details to terms. There's still lots missing, and the pages that exist aren't complete yet, but it's a start. [I had a quick look around http://commons.wikimedia.org/ and found some diagrams that everyone's free to use. And on some terms I had previously made instructional videos.]

* I've added a search functionality:
- Search for "Gegenbruch" on http://www.happyfolding.com/dictionary
- You should get a results page with two entries: "inside reverse fold" and "outside reverse fold".
Both of these terms have a translation into German, which includes the word "Gegenbruch". In the snippet you can also see that the word "Gegenbruch" is part of the translation to German. For example, the snippet for "inside reverse fold" includes "German (Deutsch): Gegenbruch nach innen; German (Deutsch): innerer Gegenbruch;"
I hope this search suits users.

No news on contributing translations via the website. I've had a couple of people sending me feedback via email, though. Special thanks to Hans Dybkjær for providing all the Danish translations, and Marrigje Barnard for filling in the gaps in the Dutch translations!

I put X where the word either is left untranslated (here in Brazil we use foreign words quite often, but I'm not sure how folders in Portugal deal with it) or isn't used at all (you also speak two languages, you know translantion is a very complicated and subjective thing ).
